Snippet #11

Snippet #11

The siren's fingers twitched as her hand drifted towards the man's arm. He smelled so tempting, so full of life and energy. She was so hungry, her last meal more than a month past. He had come to her call, he was her prey by all the rights and laws of her world. But not his. She glanced up at his kind face, the merry brown eyes and cherubic cheeks. She would not devour him, she could not. She swore then to restrain herself from him, to take not even a small taste. If only from him. The proud young man with that foolish grin, the shapeless cotton cap that he had pressed upon her curls to distill the chilled air. He did not know her, yet he wanted to help her. No. She would not sup from him, not if her life hung in the balance. She curled her fingers into his big, tanned mitt, returning that smile.
